Welcome to the Seattle Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) website. The Seattle Section serves approximately 2300 Members of ASCE in the central and northern portions of the Puget Sound Region of the State of Washington. The Section has two Branches. Our Kitsap Branch, serves Members from the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas lying West of Puget Sound. Our North Branch serves Members in Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, Island and San Juan counties. In addition, we are fortunate to have two Student Chapters within our Section, serving Student Members at the University of Washington and Seattle University.

The Seattle Section meets monthly from September through June in the Seattle metropolitan area. Meetings are normally held on the second Wednesday of the month. President's Column

By Ann Bryant, P.E.

In early October, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Region 8 Assembly and Board of Governors Fall Meeting in Lake Tahoe. As your Seattle Section President, I am the official Section delegate to the Region 8 Assembly. The Assembly meets twice per year, and is a unique opportunity for Regional Governors, National Directors, and Section Presidents to exchange ideas and information, as well as shape the future of our Region.

For those of you not familiar with the new governance structure of the Society, the Society is divided into 10 Regions (9 Regions in the USA, and one International Region). The Seattle Section is part of Region 8, which includes 14,000 members in 13 Sections within Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. The Region 8 Board of Governors is comprised of seven Governors (six elected and one appointed), one Director, and one appointed non-voting Treasurer/ Historian. The Director also serves on the National Board. Since the Region is comprised of 13 different Sections, and there are only 7 Governors, the Assembly, which is unique to Region 8, was created so that each Section had the opportunity to provide input at the Regional level, and to bring Regional information directly back to the Sections and Branches. The Assembly is comprised of the 7 Governors, the Director, one representative from each of the 13 Sections, and one representative from the Western Regional Younger Member Council (WRYMC).
